This whole series is amazing. This book was a huge part of the story, and it reminded me of Twilight too. It's the second to last book, and it ends with the story at it's peak.
The book starts out with Tamani becoming a student at Laurel's school. He does this in order to protect her since the last encounter with trolls was a close call. Even though the sentries are watching over Laurel and her friends and family, they can't be everywhere.
During the night of a dance at school, Laurel, Tam, Chelsea, Ryan, David, and a new foreign exchange student, Yuki, are on the way home when they run into trolls. Yuki is a friend of Klea, and Laurel was asked to watch over her because she isn't human. Klea and Yuki know that she is not human, but only Laurel, David, Chelsea, and Tam know that she is actually a faerie. They just don't know how much Yuki actually knows, nor do they know what seaason of faerie Yuki is.
With Tam and David both going to the same school, Laurel wrestles with her feelings between the two along with dealing with trolls, faerie training, and trying to find information about Yuki and Klea. You will be extrememly surprised with the results.
Go beyond the book jacket and hardcover, and take a peek inside the next book on your reading list. This is my review, my summary, and my thoughts on the latest books I've read or am reading.

Spells by Aprilynne Pike
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Aprilynne Pike's series is so good that I cannot put these books down. I started the third book immediately after finishing this book. This series is just so good, and the second book did not disappoint.
The book starts out with Laurel getting faerie training in Avalon. It's a little slow during this part of the book, but I was captivated by the beauty in Avalon. When I was reading, I felt like I was there. I could feel the warmth of the sun and smell the fragrance from the beautiful flowers.
At the end of summer, Laurel goes back to her human life and goes straight from classes in Avalon to classes at public school in the human world. She is having a hard time deciding if she belongs in the human world or the faerie world. It doesn't help that her heart is torn between both Tamani and David.
It's been a long time since Laurel has seen or heard from trolls, but the faeries advise her to be on guard at all times because they will strike when she least expects it. She has a faerie potions kit that she carries everywhere. One night, when Laurel and David are at an end of summer party, Laurel spots trolls outside, and they are both captured. Only thanks to Klea, a human who has been hunting trolls, do they escape.
David instantly trusts Klea who arms both him and Laurel with guns for protection. Laurel is hesitant to trust someone who hunts nonhumans and arms minors with illegal weapons. She keeps her faerie identity from Klea.
Should Laurel trust Klea? What will happen when Barnes strikes again? Does Laurel belong in the human world with David and her family or the faerie world with Tamani?

Sweep Series #8 Changeling by Cate Tiernan
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Witchcraft, Teen Books
Simliar to: Twilight
Ages: 13-30
**********WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOKS #1-7****************
Nothing huge happened in this book, but it's another branch in the series, and I really enjoyed reading it. By the eighth book, you feel like you know the characters. When I read these books I feel like I am living out my life with these characters, especially since the passing of time in the books is so slow.
Morgan has broken up with Hunter because she believes she is bad for him, but her feelings for him are stronger than ever. Her parents are going out of town for two weeks, and right when they leave, Morgan gets a knock on the door. A lady named Eoife from the council wants Morgan to get close to her father because they believe that he has ordered up a dark wave that will kill all of Starlocket. Will Morgan be able to save Starlocket by getting close to her father? Will Morgan's deception end up in her death or will she fall for her father's charm instead of betraying him?

Wings by Aprilynne Pike
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction, Fantasy, Teen romance, Faeries
Similar to: Twilight
Ages: 13-40
Wings is such a good book. I wasn't really sure if I would like it when I bought it because it didn't seem like my kind of book, but this book has a little bit of something for everyone.
Laurel was homeschooled up until high school, but her parents have moved her to a new town, and that means she has to attend public school. As soon as she gets there, she has no trouble making friends, especially a cute boy named David. David and Laurel become quick friends, and their attraction to one another is undeniable.
When Laurel starts to grow what looks like a flower out of her back, she confides in David alone. He helps her figure out what is going on with her, but Laurel finally gets her real answers in the woods at her old house. She meets a faerie named Tamani and feels an instant connection with him. She finds out that she was sent to live with the humans in order to inherit the land that her parents own, which is the gateway to Avalon. Everything was going as planned until a group of trolls tried to purchase the land for themselves.
Will David, Tamini, and Laurel be able to stop the trolls from gaining the land that holds the gateway and opening the gate between worlds? Will Laurel choose to be with reliable and comforting David or exciting and handsome Tamani?
Aprilynne Pike captured magic, romance, and suspense all in one book. Good thing there are three more books in the series because I was left wanting more from the second I finished this book.

Fall For Anything by Courtney Summers
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction, drama, stories about dealing with loss and suicide
Similar to: Lifetime movies, Meg Cabot books, Ann Brashares books
Ages: 15-21
Although this book was good, and I really like Courtney Summers's works, this was not one of my favorites. I feel like I should have learned an in depth life lesson, but instead I thought this book only went skin deep.
Eddie's father committed suicide, and no one can explain why. Her mother is too sad to notice that Eddie is really hurting, but her friend Milo has always been there for her, even though he doesn't want to tell her the things he remembers from the night her father committed suicide.
Every day, Eddie goes to the abandoned building where her father committed suicide, searching for answers. While there, Eddie meets a young photographer, Culler, who worked under her father. Eddie is instantly attracted to Culler because he loved her father and his work, and he is the only one who seems to understand what she's going through with wanting answers.
When Eddie picks up the one and only box her dad left in his photography studio, there is nothing but a series of photographs. Disappointed, Eddie gives the box to Culler, who discovers the photographs hold hidden secrets that form a scavenger hunt for Eddie to follow. What will the messages Eddie's father left behind reveal?
The best part of the book was the relationships Eddie had with both Culler and Milo. I kept wondering who she was going to end up with, but I found myself taking a lot of breaks while reading this, and it took me a few months to actually get around to finishing it. I thought I just hadn't been in the mood to read, but the book I'm reading right now captivated my interst right away, and I finished it in just two days. I can only assume this book wasn't for me, but maybe others will think differently.

Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen Romance, Books about poverty or unfortunate circumstances
Similar to: Sarah Dessen Novels, Elizabeth Scott Novels
Ages: 13-30
This book was so emotionally deep that I found myself close to tears a couple of times. Although Susane Colasanti's books are normally happy teen romances, this was more about finding your voice in the world rather than romance.
Noelle is bullied in school. Her mother completely neglects her. She is poor and her stomach grumbles from only having mustard and mayonnaise sandwiches, she has only a few pieces of clothing, and rides the bus to school even though she is a junior in high school. The kids in high school are extremely brutal to Noelle, except for her good friend Sherae, a unique boy named Simon who doesn't care what people think, and a popular boy Julian. When Julian asks Noelle out, she tries to push him away because she doesn't feel she has a place in his world. He will see that he's way too good for her, and then Noelle will have less of a reason to keep holding on.
I feel like everyone is high school can relate to this book no matter if they've been bullied or been the bully. I was so moved by some of the things the character Noelle had to deal with that it brought tears to my eyes because there are people who go through what she goes through everyday. Noelle perservered through it all, and so can anyone else who is going through a tough time in their life...as long as they keep holding on.

Although I did like this book, it dragged on for quite some time before Elizabeth Scott abruptly finished the story in the last 20 pages. I was kind of disappointed, and not quite happy when the story was over.
Abby has always lived in her older sister, Tess's, shadow. Even now that Tess is in a coma, Abby is bound to her sister in a way that keeps her from being her own person. Tess is perfect, and everyone loves her. Why wouldn't the hot, perfect, Eli who everyone is lusting after love her too.
Abby wants her sister to wake up so badly, but she finds she is falling for Eli, who is perfect for the perfect Tess. But Abby finds Eli isn't as perfect as he seems, and neither is Tess. Tess has secrets that Abby is just now discovering. Tess had a whole other life that is far from perfect.

Bloom by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen romance with something deeper
Similar to: Sarah Dessen Novels, Susane Colasanti Novels
Ages: 13-30
I had already read this book a few years ago, but reading it for the second time, felt like reading it for the first time. This book was so intensely good that I finished it after only having started it yesterday.
Lauren has the perfect life. She has a perfect boyfriend named Dave, and a perfect best friend, Katie, who has a matching perfect boyfriend, Marcus. Everything in life should be perfect, but it isn't, and Lauren starts to realize that when Evan comes into town. Evan's mom dated Lauren's dad, and they were super close when they were younger. They haven't seen each other for years, but the chemistry between them is undeniable.
Lauren's feelings for Evan are intense and scary. Should she risk it all to be with someone who makes her feel alive, or should she play it safe and stay with Dave, who makes her feel nothing at all?
This book is a prime specimen of teen romance. The romance in this book made my heart feel like it was about to burst through my chest, and I couldn't stop turning the pages. It will forever have a place in my heart.

As I Wake by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction, dystopian societies, parallel universes
Similar to: The Hunger Games Trilogy
Ages: 13-100
This book was definately not what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's hit and miss for me with Elizabeth Scott, but this one was definately a hit.
There are two parallel universes; the world we know today, and another dystopian society universe. Ava wakes up in our universe, with no memory of where she's at or how she got there. The memories she does have are those from the other universe. A place where she came from the creche, the lowest rank in society. She remembers being in love with a boy named Morgan who is high ranked in their dystopian society, so they are not allowed to be together. Morgan is contacting her in our universe, but he doesn't belong there, and the longer he stays, the closer he drifts to becoming nonexistent in either universe.
Should Ava stay in the universe she doesn't remember, where she has a mother who loves her and freedom to be anything she wants to be, or should she go back with Morgan to a society where she will spend her life running to be with her one true love? What is more important in life: freedom or true love?
Normally Elizabeth Scott's darker novels don't appeal to me, but this one was so clever, and so captivating, that once I started it, I just couldn't put it down. With the dystopian society fad, this is definately a must read.

So Much Closer by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction/romance
Similar to: Sarah Dessen Novels, The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot
Ages: 12-30
I am always so pleasantly surprised when I read a Susane Colasanti novel. It's almost like I forget how good her books really are until I'm reading one of them. This book was one of my favorites by her.
Brooke has just been going through the motions in life. She hates school, so she refuses to do her school work even though she is a genius, she doesn't get along with her mother, and she is in love with a boy who has no idea she exists. All of that changes when she finds out Scott, the boy Brooke thinks she is meant to be with, moves to NYC.
When Brooke moves in with her dad, who lives in NYC, in order to follow Scott, it is as beautiful as she expected, but the relationships she expected to have with Scott and her dad are not what she expected. Luckilly, she meets a great friend Sadie who gets her to sign up for a tutoring program where she meets an awesome boy named John who shows her how to look at the world from a different perspective. Only then, when she realizes that life is beautiful, does Brooke start to turn her life around, and attempt to make a difference in the world.
This book really makes you feel like you can make a difference in the world. I also really connected to this book because I saw a lot of myself in Brooke. I definately recommend you read this book if you are a fan of teen romance in any way.

Thumped by Megan McCafferty
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction, dystopian societies
Similar to: Bumped by Megan McCafferty, Fanfare by Renee Ahdieh, Saved! (movie)
Ages: 13-18
Although this book was better than Bumped, I still wasn't captivated by Megan McCafferty's story. I'm glad I read this book though because it redeemed Bumped, and tied up all of the loose ends from that book.
Twin sisters Harmony and Melody are both pregnant...kind of. Harmony is pregnant with JonDoe's twin babies, but the world thinks they are her husband Ram's babies. Melody is claiming she is pregnant with JonDoe's babies, when really she is sporting a fake baby bump, and she is in love with her best friend Zen. When Harmony escapes from Goodside, she goes into labor the very next day while Melody is in school. What will happen when the world finds out that Melody, one of the most popular baby bumpers in society has been lying to them all along. What about the Jayden's who are waiting patiently for their babies to arrive?
This book fits in with all of the dystopian society books that are emerging, but it still leaves something to be desired. It was a decent read, but there are so many better books out there, and in order to get to this book, you have to suffer through the first book in the series.

Ages: 15-100
I really liked this book, but I haven't quite decided how I feel about the ending. I honestly think that is something that I can only decide after I read the third book in this trilogy.
The simulation has ended, and there were many casualties. Now Tris and Four have to fight back against the Erudite government who is fighting in a war with the other four factions. Tris will face the most critical decision she has ever made in her life. Does she join in with Four in the fight against the Erudite and help destroy all of the information, or does she side with Marcus, Four's abusive father, who may know critical information that needs to be protected. Tris can only do what her instinct tells her.
This book is packed full of action, love, and surprising information. What would you do; side with the love of your life, or take a chance and side with his enemy who might know the only way save mankind?

Does she join in with Four in the fight against the Erudite and help destroy all of the information, or does she side with Marcus, Four's abusive father, who may know critical information that needs to be protected. Tris can only do what her instinct tells her.
This book is packed full of action, love, and surprising information. What would you do; side with the love of your life, or take a chance and side with his enemy who might know the only way save mankind?

Divergent by Veronica Roth
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Dystopian societies, teen fiction, war
Similar to: The Hunger Games, The Matched Trilogy by Ally Condie
Ages: 15-100
Divergent takes place in a dystopian society where there are five factions. Each faction has different rules to live by, and everyone gets to choose whether they want to remain in the faction they grew up in, or if they want to take the risk of joining another faction. If their choice doesn't work out, they become factionless. The factionless people have no food, no place to live, and work the lowest position jobs in society.
Beatrice, or Tris, is Divergent, which means she can relate to any of the facitons, but being Divergent is dangerous. If the wrong people find out that someone is Divergent, it will most certainly in end that person's untimely death.
I found this book a little hard to get into, but the last 150 pages were so good, I couldn't put the book down. The characters were easily likeable, especially Four, who I developed a crush on in the first 130 pages of the book.
This book is part of a trilogy, and the next book comes out next month. I honestly cannot wait to read it.

The Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

What would you do if you fell in love with your best friend's boyfriend?
Sarah and Brianna have been best friends forever. Sarah is the sweet and supportive best friend who sometimes gets pushed around by the beautiful and popular Brianna, but their friendship is rock solid. Brianna and Sarah know everything about each other, until Sarah kisses Brianna's boyfriend. Sarah has always had feelings for Ryan (Brianna's boyfriend), but never got a chance to let him know how she felt before, and now that he is dating her best friend, she'd be breaking the unwritten rule.
This book leaves us asking, what is more important, friendship or true love?
Overall, this book was good, but it was so similar to a previous book I had read, that I kept confusing the details from this book with the other book.

Update.
I can't believe it's been almost two months since I've posted a review or even cracked open a book. My grandma just gave me a book to read today, so it definately made me want to start reading again. I have just been watching a lot of tv and Netflix lately, along with being busy as always. My current obsession is How I Met Your Mother. It is hilariously clever.
I plan on reading tonight when I get off work. I think I'm going to be reading The Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott, but we'll see how I feel tonight.
Blessings,
Chelsea

Grace by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Dystopian societies, people escaping captivity
Similar to: The Hunger Games Trilogy, Matched Trilogy
Ages: 15-50
At first, I wavered on whether or not I wanted to read this book, but I'm glad I did.
Grace is a book set in the dystopian future about a young girl who is traveling on a train to escape the wrath of an evil dictator. She once lived in the Hills, a place untouched by the dictator, Keran Berj, but she was exiled once she failed her task as a suicide bomber. Now Grace is on a train to what she believes is freedom with a boy named Kerr who she just met. Kerr is also trying to find freedom outside of Keran Berj's rule, but his reason why is a secret. Why is Kerr taking to train ride, and will Kerr and Grace set foot on free land?
I really did like the book, but it was one I feel like I could easily forget. It was a really short book, but anything longer would have been boring and too slow for me. The book was also a little tough to follow at some points, but I feel like I understood everything Elizabeth Scott wanted me to. "Grace" only took me two hours to read, so I would definately recommend that you spend the little bit of time and decide what you think about this book for yourself.

Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen romance, teen drama
Similar to: Sarah Dessen Novels, Cyberbully (movie)
Ages: 13-25
Although I loved Susane Colasanti's last novel, I was not thrilled with this one. I'm really glad this was such a quick read because I would have been disappointed if I had spent a lot of time reading on it.
Lani and Erin have been best friends since they were little. Ever since a car accident, the two girls have shared everything, and now they are about to share the same boyfriend. Blake is Lani's other friend who is going through the process of sharing his homosexuality with the school and with his family. Will Lani be able to be with Jason, or will she be forced to give up her soul mate in order to keep her best friend?
This book was filled with characters that were completely pointless. I understand Conner, the foreign boy from art class who helps Lani realize what's important, but Greg, Danielle, and Sophie were completely pointless. The book just had so many loose ends that I felt like a bunch of random pages were put together to try to assemble a book. I didn't feel a connection to Jason at all. He seemed shallow and boring to me, and the fact that Lani and him had so much in common seemed completely superficial. I was more in love with Conner who was only mentioned a few times in the book.
I wasn't 100 percent disappointed with this book. The writing is great as always. Susane Colasanti has the gift of being able to transport me to a time and place completely different from here, and she did that in this book. I just really wish I could have connected more with the story.

Crossed by Ally Condie
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Dystopian societies, forbidden love, uprisings
Similar to: The Hunger Games Trilogy, 1984
Ages:13-100
I pretty much dropped my whole life for 12 hours to read this book because it was so good I couldn't put it down. Ally Condie did not disappoint with her second novel in the Matched Trilogy.
Now that Ky has been transferred to a work camp in the Outer Provinces to make it look like farmers still inhabit the area, Cassia is on the search for him. She pretends to be an Aberration so that she can get on an airship to the Outer Provinces. Two days before Cassia makes it to the Outer Provinces, Ky and two friends escape from the work camp to look for Cassia. When Cassia arrives at the camp, and finds out Ky is in search of her, she leaves with her friend Indie, and a boy from the camp to search for him. Will they find each other, and when they do, where will they go to be together?
Cassia has heard about the Rising which is an uprising against The Society. She wants to join, but doesn't even know where to begin to look for them, and when she finds Ky, will he want to join the rising too?
This book was so good that I was really sad when I finished it. I cannot wait until November for the third and final book in this series.

Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen fiction, romance
Similar to: Sarah Dessen novels, Meg Cabot's teen novels
Ages:13-30
Seventeen year old Hannah trys to fly under the radar because both of her parents are famous. Her 72 year old dad, Jackson, is like Hugh Hefner, and her mom used to be one of Jackson's "special girls", but she now answers questions in her lingerie over a webcast. Hannah works with two guys, Finn and Josh. Josh is this amazingly gorgeous sensitive type who Hannah has the hugest crush on, and Finn is her friend who completely gets her and is always around for a laugh, but she could never see herself dating Finn...or can she?
Hannah's situation just got complicated. She already hasn't talked to her selfish dad since her stepfather, Jose, died five years ago and both Hannah and her mom just picked up and moved out of New York. High School sucks because Hannah's only friend, Teagan is 19 and graduated. Hannah just can't get up the courage to talk to Josh, but now she is having some really weird feelings toward Finn. What will Hannah do?
I really liked this book. It was a cute and simple read, and I always love an Elizabeth Scott book (except Living Dead Girl). I love her way to make a classic teen romance into something just a little bit different, and this book definately exceeded my expecations.

Waiting for You by Susane Colasanti
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Teen romance, happy endings
Similar to: The Princess Diaries, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Meg Cabot's How to Be Popular, any Sarah Dessen novel :D
Ages:13-35
I have such a happy feeling after reading this book. Susane Colasanti knows how to capture everything a teenager is feeling and put it into writing. I am having serious pangs of nostalgia right now after reading this book. From the moment I started reading, I couldn't put this book down.
Marisa is a sophomore and over the span of a year, a lot happens in her life. Battling anxiety disorder and depression, Marisa has to deal with all of what most teenagers deal with and more. She has a best friend named Sterling, a nerdy guy friend who has a crush on her named Nash, a crush on a hottie named Derek, a secret crush on a guy who does a radio show named Dirk, a crazy annoying sister named Sandra, a cool Aunt Katie, and two parents that are acting insanely weird.
In this typical, but always entertaining teen novel, the reader can remember what it was like to be a teenager, and teenagers can relate to Marisa and know they are not alone. This quick and easy read was great, and had my heart racing the whole time.

Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars (The content was too much for me, but the writing was great)
If You Like: Dark Teen Fiction, Stories of Rape and Abduction
Similar to: The Lovely Bones (book and movie), Sarah Dessen's novels, Speak (book and movie)
Ages: 14-40 (I recommend you read this before you let your teenager read this)
I guess I should read book jackets more often because I expected "Living Dead Girl" to be happy and romantic like Elizabeth Scott's previous novels. I was sadly mistaken. This was one of the most disturbing books I've ever read. It was brilliantly written, but when I finished the last page, I was sick to my stomach.
Living Dead Girl is a story about abduction, pedophilia, and rape. It is graphic and written from the perspective of a 15 year old girl who has been raped and abused by her abductor for the past five years. This book is not for the faint of heart or for those with a weak stomach, like myself.
Although I read this book in less than a couple of hours, I was so disturbed that I really wish I could take it back. Do with this review what you will, but just remember you have been warned.

Leaving by Karen Kingsbury
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Christian fiction, Romance
Similar to: Nicholas Sparks novels, Friday Night Lights (tv show), Fanfare (book), High School Musical (movie)
Ages: 13-100
This was my first Karen Kingsbury novel that I read because it was a Christmas gift. It was a quick and easy read, but I wish I would have known that this story is a continuation of 4 other series.
Although this book was good, I was more interestied in the side story than the main characters themselves. Bailey Flanagin just seemed unrealistically perfect to me. Also, I felt like I was reading a Disney movie. No one kissed, no one did much of anything. The best part of the book was the story of the Baxter family, a couple and their three young children who are currently going through a hard time.
What I especially liked about the book was that there was scripture laced throughout it. It took some getting used to at first because I thought it seemed like Karen Kingsbury was just adding too much, but after reading the book, I felt closer to God.
Overall, yes the book seemed a bit extravagent and unrealistic, but we all read books to escape reality and this book did that for me. I am waiting for the library to get in the next book in the series. After I finish this series, I will back track and read the four series before it, in order.

Sweep Series #7 The Calling by Cate Tiernan
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If You Like: Witchcraft, Teen books
Similar to: The Secret Circle (TV show), Twilight, Avalon High (book by Meg Cabot and made into a movie)
Ages:13-30
**** WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ****
Morgan is having dreams of a young witch being sacrificed, but all of the people in her dream are dressed in animal costumes. Hunter thinks Morgan's dreams are premonitions, and has to travel to New York for Seeker business. The whole gang decides to tag along for a little get away to Bree's dad's New York apartment.
While in New York, Morgan meets a lot of witches. Witchcraft isn't as hidden in New York as it is at home. After finding out that Morgan's premonition showed she was the sacrifice, Morgan barely escapes with her life. She finds out that Ciaran is her father, and ends things with Hunter believing that she is evil and poison to him.
Of all of the books so far, this one was definately my favorite. It was full of adventure, and a lot of shocking information was revealed. Although so much happened in this book, it ended with us waiting for so much more to come.

After combining the two covens, things start to heat up. Cal is back and so is Selene. After a fight to the death, Cal ends up sacrificing himself in order to save Morgan, and Selene turns into smoke which disappears from the room. They believe that both of them are dead.
I thought this book was really good. It was one of the most exciting books, and had me on the edge of my seat. A lot of loose ends are finally tied up, but it's only the middle of the series, so there is still more to come...
